2007 Ruggedised Windows CE Data Logger   Data Logger Locks Up Replacing Screen Back to Micronics Product Page Membrane Maintenance. The membrane is made from a tough silicon polymer and should last years with a simple maintenance routine. The film material is very tough but can be damaged by minute sharp edges of airborne dust when the stylus is dragged across the screen. The surface is porous and will hold the minute dust particles. This dust will accumulate and build up a film which will cause friction when the stylus is dragged over the surface. A 2.5 ml vial of special conditioning oil provided with the installation kit will provide protection and lubricacy for up to 1 month of continuos use before needing cleaning and re-application. The frequency of reconditioning will depend on the operating Environment of the data logger. If on dusty mine sites expect to recondition more often . For GIS urban use the period between conditioning will be much longer.   How to tell when conditioning is required. Drag stylus over the screen and if any slight friction is felt it is time for maintenance.   Items Required. 1. Small bottle of methylated Spirits or Alcohol 2. Cotton balls or clean soft rag. 3. Vial of 2007 conditioning oil (Supplied with Kit) Should last for years.   Procedure. Damp clean cloth or cotton balls in alcohol and wipe away GENTLY the Surface film build up. Do not use coarse rag or denim as this can mark the screen when dragged across surface. Clean the tip of the Stylus at the same time. 2. Allow to dry. 3. Drip 1 to 2 drops maximum of conditioning oil from vial on centre of membrane. 4. With finger wipe the oil over entire screen face only. 5. With a clean cloth wipe gently any excess oil from screen.   The unit is now ready for service and can be tested by moving stylus over the Screen The stylus should glide over screen without grabbing. Windows CE lock up. Symptom. The screen locks up and won't accept stylus commands The 2007 can't be turned off.   Cause. The RAM memory is full. All CE devices exhibit this condition. This is caused by large data collection files not being downloaded and freeing memory. Most often this occurs when collecting line features such as boundary fences and roads when the Ram storage is near full. Usually the the distance of registering is unrealistically low i.e. every 2 metres for a major road or boundary fence when say 10 meters would suffice. This generates large amounts of data even though the device can store many thousands of line points.   Remedy. Reset the 2007. Turn unit with rear facing you. Remove M3 slot screw, using a straightened paper clip or similar, push reset button until a soft click is heard. Replace the M3 screw to seal the 2007. All your saved files should be intact except your last open file. Replacing the 2007 Screen Membrane. Part No. Mic 3000 Should the Screen Membrane become scarred and scratched it can be replaced in a clean environment.   Tools required. Anti Tamper Screw tool.   Remove screws starting from the centre and then gently prise 2007 face from main body. Remove and discard unserviceable membrane. Fit new Membrane over face of computer correctly taking note of screw hole alignment. Refit and evenly tighten tamper proof screws starting with the 2 centre screws and using thumb and forefinger only, screw until the face has bedded on housing surface. Tighten evenly until screwdriver starts to slip between thumb and forefinger. Apply 1 drop of conditioning oil to membrane surface and smear. Wipe off excess oil with soft clean rag. The unit is ready to use. Note It is quite normal to have trapped air bubbles under the screen membrane and 2007 screen surface.
